Because of elected terms that would not end until the April 2008 W-5A conclave and other factors, Gila 378 remained as part of W-5A as well as being a member of its new section, W-4C. For 2007 and 2008, Gila was officially part of both W-5A and W-4C, and participated in both conclaves during both years.

The proposed reshuffle of Area 5 that was to take place at the end of August 2008 was superceded by the 2008 Realignment.

In November 2007, the region decided to dissolve Section W-5B. After the conclusion of the August 2008 conclave, Ha-Kin-Skay-A-Ki 387 will be transferred to W-5A, while Tahosa 383 and Mic-O-Say 541 will be moved to W-5C. As no elections will be held at this event, each lodge will also be encouraged to attend their new respective section's conclave in April, where they will be eligible to vote and submit candidates for elections.

To better reflect the geography of Area 5, it's three sections will then be renamed:

Singapore is transferred from Direct Service to the Far East Council, which covers Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the Philippines.

Desert Pacific Council changed its name to the San Diego-Imperial Council. This was presumably to reflect the 2001 split that resulted in the council only consisting of San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Boulder Dam Area Council changed its name to the Las Vegas Area Council.

Kootz Lodge #523 was absorbed by Nanuk Lodge #355 and formed into two chapters, Maritime and Totem, and in doing so those brothers came full circle. When the Alaska Council was established in 1946-- and it lodge Nanuk 355 in 1947-- it initially covered the entire state. By 1954, scouting was developed enough in the Anchorage area to support a separate council. The Southeast Alaska Council was formed and given jurisdiction over the Alaska panhandle, while the rest of the council was renamed the Western Alaska Council. Kootz 523 was chartered to the new council in 1957.

- Western Alaska Council (Nanuk 355) absorbed Southeast Alaska Council (Kootz 523), to form Great Alaska Council #610 in Anchorage, AK.

Between 2006 and 2008, maps from the Western Region website changed to indicate a boundary change between Great Alaska and Midnight Sun councils. Indeed Midnight Sun's website includes the description "starting at the Canadian Border and running west stopping at the Bering Sea, not including Nome and the surrounding area". The "Nome and surrounding area" was shown in region maps before 2007 to be included in Midnight Sun; however, in 2008 the Western Region's area map showed that the boundary between the two turned sharply north east of Nome. I believe that this boundary change incorrectly doesn't include the portions of Alaska just north of Nome that touches the Bering Sea. Therefore, I would suggest that this boundary change happened around 2007.

Although Old Baldy Council has merged, there was a provision for its lodge (Navajo 98) to continue for six months past the council's disappearance. September 9, 2006 was the last official lodge function, as they were listed as attending NOAC. Navajo Lodge was then disbanded, with its membership split between Cahuilla 127 and Ta Tanka 488.

- Old Baldy Council (Navajo 98) was split between California Inland Empire (Cahuilla 127) and San Gabriel Valley (Ta Tanka 488) Councils. The Los Angeles County portion merged into San Gabriel Valley, and the San Bernardino County portion merged into CA Inland Empire.
