*Amangamek-Wipit 470 was originally chartered in March, 1952 without a name or totem. In June 1953, the first lodge name "Amanquemack" was obtained in a telephone conversation with a Delaware Indian language expert at the Smithsonian Institution. The lodge name was interpreted as "large fish"; there was no word for shark in the language. In late 1955, additional research was done on the lodge name. It was discovered that the word "Amanquemack" had been written down incorrectly in the original telephone conversation with the Smithsonian. The correct spelling was "Amangamek". The word for tooth, "Wipit", was added to complete the lodge name which first appeared in early 1956.
